No, never send items before receiving payment. This is essential for your protection as a seller. Always follow these safety guidelines:
For local collection:
- Collect payment when you hand over the items (cash or instant bank transfer)
- Meet in a safe, public location if possible
For posted items:
- Receive full payment before shipping
- Only send items after payment has cleared in your account
- Keep proof of postage and tracking information
Why this matters: While most parents in our community are honest and trustworthy, requiring payment first protects you from potential scams or non-payment. Legitimate buyers understand and respect this policy.
While we don't enforce strict quality standards, we encourage sellers to list items that are:
- Clean and freshly washed
- In good wearable condition with plenty of life left
- Free from significant stains, tears, or damage
- With functioning zips, buttons, and fastenings
Be honest in your descriptions. It's perfectly fine to sell items with minor wear—most parents understand that school uniforms show use. Mention any fading, small marks, or imperfections in your listing. Items described accurately sell faster and create happy buyers.
Think: Would I be happy if my child wore this to school? If yes, it's suitable to list.
Items that are heavily stained, torn beyond repair, or excessively worn should be recycled through textile recycling schemes rather than listed for sale.
Yes, Old School Uniform is completely free to register and browse. There are no listing fees, no commission charges, and no hidden costs. You keep 100% of any money you make from selling your items. The only cost is a small fee when you decide to add a product listing, but browsing, searching, and connecting with other parents is entirely free.
Absolutely! Many parents choose to give away their preloved uniforms for free to help other families and reduce textile waste. When listing an item, simply set the price to £0 or mark it as "Free to a good home." This is a wonderful way to support your school community, ensure usable uniforms find a second life, and prevent perfectly good clothing from ending up in landfill. Every year, thousands of tonnes of school uniforms are thrown away when they could benefit another family.
Payment arrangements are made directly between you and the buyer—we don't handle transactions, which is why we charge zero commission. When a buyer contacts you about an item, discuss and agree on your preferred payment method before arranging collection or postage. Popular options include:
- Bank transfer (secure and instant)
- PayPal (buyer and seller protection available)
- Cash on collection (convenient for local pickups)
- Other digital payment apps

Unlike other marketplaces that take 10-20% commission, every penny you earn from selling preloved uniforms stays in your pocket. Whether you sell one blazer for £15 or fifty items for £500, you keep it all.
It is Free to list items on Old School Uniform and we take no commisson for anything sold on the site.
You can list as many items as you like, for any of the schools you have added to your account.
If your school is not listed on the Old School Uniform platform, you can add it yourself here: https://oldschooluniform.co.uk/RegisterSchool or email us at info@oldschooluniform.co.uk with your school's name and location. We'll get your school added within 24 hours on weekdays.
Yes, you can absolutely add multiple schools to your account. This is especially useful if you have children at different schools or if you're switching schools and have uniforms from both to sell. Each listing can be tagged to the specific school it belongs to, making it easy for other parents to find exactly what they need.
To add another school, log in to your account and click "Add Additional School" in your profile settings. This will take you directly to the additional school registration page where you can search for and add your additional school.
If you search for your child's school and find it's not yet registered on our platform, contact us at info@oldschooluniform.co.uk and we'll get it added quickly—usually within 24-48 hours. If your school is listed but you can't find the specific items you need, you have two options:
- Post a "Wanted" notice describing what you're looking for (e.g., "Wanted: Year 7 boys' blazer, size 34"). Other parents at your school will see your request and can contact you if they have those items available.
- Check back regularly as new items are listed daily, especially before the start of each term and during growth spurts throughout the school year.
Most parents find what they need within a few days of posting a wanted notice.
That's perfect! We are not competing with your school shop, we hope we will compliment your school shop. Having an online store will allow new and old parents access to your available school uniform items 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Once a parent registers, there will be a link(s) within their 'My Account' page to the school(s) shop page they have registered with. Parents can however request (via the registration form) to receive alerts for uniform items uploaded to their school(s).
Yes! We provide free marketing materials to help schools and PTAs promote their preloved uniform initiative. This includes:
- Ready-to-print flyers for school newsletters and noticeboards
- Digital graphics for social media and email communications
- Logos and branding assets

1. Local collection (most common)
- Meet at a convenient location near the school
- Popular spots include: school car park at pickup/drop-off time, local cafés, supermarket car parks, or outside the school gates
- Payment is made when items are handed over (cash or instant bank transfer)
2. Doorstep collection
- Buyer collects from seller's home address
- Quick and convenient for local families
- Payment on collection
3. Royal Mail or courier
- Seller posts items after receiving payment
- Buyer pays postage costs (agreed in advance)
- Useful when buyer and seller live further apart
Most exchanges happen locally since parents are usually within the same school community or familiar with the area around the school. This makes collection convenient and builds trust between families.
Yes, most parents add good descriptions and you can of course ask questions regarding the item before purchasing.
Because Old School Uniform is a peer-to-peer marketplace connecting parents directly (not a retailer), returns and refunds are arranged between buyer and seller—we don't have a formal returns policy. However, we strongly recommend:

- Ask the seller detailed questions about condition, measurements, and any wear
- Request additional photos if needed
- Check the school's size chart to ensure proper fit
- Discuss the seller's willingness to accept returns if items don't fit
Best practice: Most sellers are understanding parents themselves and will work with you if there's a genuine issue, especially if you've communicated clearly beforehand. Being polite, honest, and reasonable goes a long way in our community.
For sellers: Consider stating your return policy in your listing (e.g., "Happy to refund if items don't fit—buyer pays return postage").
You can list unlimited items on Old School Uniform—there's no cap on how many uniforms, PE kits, sports equipment, or accessories you can sell or give away. Each listing allows you to upload up to 3 high-quality photos to showcase the item's condition, helping buyers make informed decisions. The more detailed your photos and descriptions, the faster items typically sell. Whether you have 1 blazer or 50 items from multiple children, you're welcome to list everything.

All you need to do is send us an email from your registered email account and we will remove all your information. Once completed we will email to let you know it has been done.
If you can't email us from your registered email address, you will need to send us an email including your registered email and your username to info@oldschooluniform.co.uk
Once we have deleted your profile, your personal information will be permanently deleted from our database and all of your listings will be automatically deleted by the website.We’ll be sad to see you go, but...
