Uniform4Kids Manufacturing and Sustainability Statement
We recognise that our operations have a direct and indirect impact on the natural and socio-economic environments. Sustainability is at the heart of Uniform4Kids and follows through to the decisions we make in running our business.
We keep updated with legislation and encourage new rules and regulations that reduce any effect on the environment. To us taking care of the environment and our future generations is not only our responsibility but that of our manufacturing partners, staff and customers. We are joining the global push to reduce waste and increase recycling.
Our commitment to future generations is to change our habits and our customers’ – to encourage consideration of the future of our environment by highlighting the necessity for recycling and buying products that are ethically made and sustainable.
We work with our core carefully selected factories who manufacture with recycled fabrics, using fabric woven and finished in the UK and not using Teflon. Wherever possible manufacturing is in the UK which helps to reduce our carbon footprint. If offshore we only work with those that adhere to strict ethical sourcing, standards and protocols and are introducing sustainability targets in water usage, pollution and recycling. We choose to use sea and rail transportation wherever possible as these produce less carbon pollution than air freight.
We produce garments made from recycled plastic bottles with the aim of reducing the carbon footprint. We have prevented 533,125 2 litre plastic bottles from going to landfill. All garments are robust, sustainable and durable as they are made to last and can be worn many times even allowing for the passing on to siblings and/or within the school to reuse again. The best way to reduce the environmental impact from clothing is to manufacture fewer things and ensure that each item will last. We intend for all of our garments to be worn for at least 1-2 years.
We use 100% recyclable, multi-use, high quality carrier bags made in the UK, which can be used repeatedly. Recycling plastic bags reduces the amount of energy usage, raw materials, pollution, as well as the waste we produce.
Environmentalists advise re-usable and recyclable materials benefit the environment more than degradable materials. If biodegradable bags enter landfill they emit carbon dioxide gases. All cardboard and recyclable product is collected regularly by a waste collector that recycles cardboard & plastic.
Our partner factories and manufacturers are members of the Ethical Trading Initiative that promote respect for workers’ rights throughout the world, finding factories that provide good working conditions and wages.
We recognise that the factories producing goods for us may have different legal and cultural environments in which they operate throughout the world. We have statements of environmental commitment from each of our manufacturers.
